Sony didn’t unveil a new Xperia Z6 phone at the Mobile World Congress but surprised us all with the new Xperia X series. The new lineup includes the Xperia X, Xperia XA, and Xperia X Performance. There was no mention on pricing and availability but we’re expecting it to arrive in the United States. That’s despite the fact some Xperia phones don’t arrive in other regions.
We’ve got information that the Xperia X series will be released in the country this 2016. No details on what mobile carrier will offer the smartphones but at least we’ve got news the Xperia X, XA, and X Performance will be ready. We just don’t know if they will be available unlocked or with a plan.
It was @SonyMobileNews who posted the confirmation when asked if the new Xperia X will be available in the US. The answer was a positive “Yes, Xperia X will be available in the US, stay tuned for timings”. No other reply or a follow up but checking on the Sony Mobile website, only the Xperia Performance and Xperia X are listed so it’s safe to conclude that we won’t see the Xperia XA Stateside.
As for the UK and Germany, we learned that the Xperia X Performance won’t be arriving in the region. Only the Xperia XA and Xperia X will be released. However, all three models will be ready for purchase in other key markets in Europe. That’s confusing because the two markets are the biggest in the region. The Xperia X Performance not becoming available is a big question mark for us.
Sony has not mentioned which European carriers will be offering the Xperia X and XA yet but we know the new phone series will be out in major global markets. Key market focus will be in Asia specifically Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
A number of mobile carriers and retailers in the UK also shared the news of the phones’ arrival. There’s EE, Vodafone UK, and Carphone Warehouse announcing the Sony Xperia X and Xperia XA’s coming to the UK–just no Xperia X Performance.
