Without revealing much in the way of specifics, Sony did hit up Twitter with mention of both Android 4.4 Kit Kat and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean earlier this morning. There was mention of them being excited, however the they went on to say they will not be revealing anything additional until sometime next week. The details are expected to include "news on: 4.3, 4.4; products and more."
Basically, if you happen to be carrying a Sony Xperia branded device and are on the lookout for details of a Jelly Bean or Kit Kat update -- make sure to pay close attention next week. Otherwise, in some news that seems to have gotten buried in the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 Kit Kit excitement yesterday, Sony also detailed their latest update for the WALKMAN app.
The details of the update come by way of Anu Kirk, who is the Director of Music Unlimited for the Sony Entertainment Network. From what we are seeing, this update came with the focus on removing the difficulty of finding what you want in your collection. Kirk mentioned how they have been "working to build the kind of service that knows what you want, and brings it to you every day."
That being said, this latest release brings new Smart Playlists along with increased options for rearranging and editing playlists. It was said how it should now be easier to customize those playlists to get them just they way you want. In addition, there was also mention of how TrackID now talks with Music Unlimited. This means users will be able to listen to the songs they identified directly from the WALKMAN app.
And looking forward, Sony did say they plan to expand the availability of Music Unlimited to additional countries and also add support for more devices and make improvements to the core service's performance in 2014. That bit also came along with a teaser about how they "have a few surprises in store, too."
