What has been confirmed is that Xiaomi will be launching the new version of their MIUI ROM next week. But what insiders are now speculating is that alongside it, a new Redmi Note model will be announced as well. It’s been a while since the original was introduced to the market, and the Redmi Note 2 will be highly anticipated by those looking for a mid-range phablet, as well as fans of the popular Chinese brand.

Specs of the Redmi Note 2 have also been leaked since speculation started that they will be launching soon. It will reportedly have a 5.5-inch full HD 1080p display and will run on an octa-core 2GHz processor. It will have 2GB RAM and two variants when it comes to the internal storage: 16GB and 32GB. The camera will reportedly be 13MP for the main and 5MP for the front-facing one. Of course it will probably be carrying the MIUI 7 OS, which is actually based on Android 5.0 Lollipop.

One of the local China online retailers has actually placed the Redmi Note 2 on their website, listing it as available for pre-order starting August 16. For the pricing, reports are saying that the 32GB variant will be 799 Yuan (around $129) while the 16GB will be 100 yuan lesser at 699 (around $113). But they’re saying that if it’s true the processor will be MT6795 and if those specs are correct, then 799 Yuan might be too low.

All will be revealed by August 13, as Xiaomi will introduce the new MIUI ROM. Whether the Redmi Note 2 will also be announced is still up for speculation.
