[Rally With Us] to Fix the Android SMS Bug

As you may know from our post this morning, there’s a bug in the greater Android system that messes with your texting. What does it mess with? The recipient. Any text you’ve sent on your Android phone over the past six months could potentially have been sent to the wrong recipient. And not only the wrong recipient in your contacts list – apparently texts are being sent to completely random people while your phone is telling you they were sent to the correct recipient! Harsh! We find this completely unacceptable, and since Google already knows about the problem, we ask you now to rally with us to get the problem to the top of their to-do lists.

All you’ve got to do is head over to their Android code complaint department to number 9392 SMS BUG aka “SMS are intermittently sent to wrong and seemingly random contact” and hit “Vote for this issue and get email change notifications.” Make sure you are logged into your Google account or you will not be able to see it.

If enough people go ahead and do this, Google will, indeed, fix it. We find it wild and crazy that this has been an issue for this long, and today we, and the greater we meaning every single person who uses an Android phone, feel its time for such an integral part of the communication process on our devices to be fixed. From what I hear, it’s not so much an issue of Google not trying to fix the bug as their programmers not knowing why this is happening. Looking at the event diagnostics, I have a strange feeling it’s one of those bizarrely insidious and elusive bugs.

Bugs, oh bugs. How we hates them.

By all means subscribe to the bug, but please save the “this is important” comments. Yes, I’m sure the 1000 people subscribing to the bug will get their attention. All the innane comments will do is make it that much harder to find the useful information in the bug that could help fix it, and make anybody who could fix the but unsubscribe from it.

In most projects posting “me toos” to bugs will get your account banned. It doesn’t help solve the problem, and just spams people with needless emails (which they’ll quickly put on auto-ignore anyway, thus preventing them from getting useful information when it comes out).
