The Notion Ink Adam tablet has been a hit ever since we first saw it at CES last year, some even say it’s the only Android tablet in which they show any interest in purchasing. Here we are almost a year later, and sure we’ve had information coming from the company on a regular basis, but we still haven’t heard any word of a release date or even had the chance to test one out and see the progress for ourselves.

However, this may be about to change. You can see on their newly updated site a counter in the upper right corner that is in binary code. Reading 1110 today (14) 1111 on Wednesday (15) and 10001 on Monday (17) we definitely have ourselves a countdown, and it just may be leading to something big.

The new site is full of easter eggs for “sneaky fellows” to find. On top of the binary countdown, users looking through the source code of the website have found out we will be seeing a revealing of a mystery hidden sensor here soon. Looking through the source code, you can find the following:

“For any sneaky fellows looking through the code, heres a tidbit for you, theres a very awesome hidden sensor we’re gonna be revealing soon.”

Also of note, starting Wednesday we saw a new code appear right below the binary countdown. The code reads “-D5720A80” and links over to Notion Ink’s tech specs page, but so far its meaning is unknown. This could be referring to this new “hidden sensor” but all we can do is wait for more hints, or possibly wait until December 9th to find out if these two codes are linked.

We can only hope that this countdown leads to something big like an official announcement of availability, or a pre-order date, but we will have to wait to find out. As always, we will be keeping you updated on this much hyped Android tablet as new word comes in.

  1. The number under the binary is a hexadecimal, which as a decimal, I think, is 3581020800. What that means, I don’t know, but possibly the number of days in milliseconds til release. Which is 41 days. Which is the 3rd/4th January 2011. Which is exciting. I hope my numbers are right, I can’t wait for this thing to be released.

  2. I just am thinking, I know this guys been in production and development a while but wouldn’t that kind of make the hardware outdated? I’m not sure, which is why I ask, but I see that it has a 3.2 MP camera while my Vibrant has a 5 mp.

I would certainly expect more from a tablet that I am assuming will be a lot more expensive than my phone is.

    Any thoughts?

I’m not worried about the camera specs on a tablet. Tablet, aren’t exactly ‘point and shoot’ whatever the pixel count. All it really needs to do is be good enough to ‘scan’ items accurately and act as a half decent webcam.

3.2 is a little low, but frankly is just as soon leave photo quality to a good dslr. I’d go for the Adam before an iPad or any other tablet even if it had no camera at all. As for the rest of it I don’t think you need to worry about it being outdated, not the tegra 250 or pixel qi display, anyway, since hardly anyone else’s tablets are using those yet.

  5. I wish Notion Ink all the best. They have a great product. The price is better than ipad. I think the battery is user replaceable. You can put ubuntu on it. And it is a “stand alone” machine” (unlike the ipad which needs another computer for several functions). If buyers were logical they would not still be buying ipads.

  6. HEX -D5720A80 = DEC -3581020800Unix timestamp -3581020800 = 7/10/1856July 10, 1856 is the birth date of Nikola Tesla, the legendary Serbian inventor!! It could be an IR sensor.

  7. Did anyone ever thought of that they could reveal the “Mystery Feature” because of the patent is sealed on it ?

    Just wanted to mention it

  8. using an excel spreadsheet and my half remembered Hexidecimal I guess that the hex on their site could be 144713565? i bet i did it wrong… the tesla idea sounds more like NI’s style.
