AT&T is getting an Android-powered phone after all. Behold the HTC Lancaster with a striking resemblance to the HTC Magic when closed and looks a lot more like the Touch Pro in form factor for a QWERTY slider than the T-Mobile G1.

According to the leaked slide on Engadget, the HTC Lancaster feature quadband EDGE and 850 / 1900MHz HSPA, AGPS, a 3 megapixel fixed-focus camera, Bluetooth 2.0, microSD expansion, and a “unique HTC social messaging user interface”. The display is oddly only 2.8” and not 3.2” with QVGA 240 x 320 pixels. The battery size is 1,350 mAh.

The targeted availability date is August 3. The price of the HTC Lancaster for AT&T is still forthcoming.

no more chin, and it has a nice slideout keyboard along with the htc magic front form wow!!
get this unlocked and its a winner =D
I was thinking about purchasing a Magic from Rogers, however the off contract price is $CDN649.99, which is a bit too steep for me.
!!
damn! screen is soooo small!
>: (
(but DAMN is that a goodlookin phone!!)
read the slide!!
its "exclusive" for only 6mos!
sweet!
i was contemplate holding my nose and signing up w/ at&t but mabye won't have to afterall!heh!!
thank GOD it's on ATnT
And a social messaging interface... sounds like a "noddy" phone, rather than a PDA-type smartphone device that does everything.
It's nice to see an AT&T 3G Android phone, yes. But lower resolution? Smaller screen size? AND A 4 ROW KEYBOARD? ... That just completely undoes the sexyness of this thing. It's like seeing a hot babe walking down the beach in her micri-mini-bikini ... until she opens her mouth and you see she's missing every other tooth, and they're all incredibly crooked. And then she talks with a shrill voice.
I call this one a fail.
(This looks a LOT like the picture of the HTC Memphis, that was leaked early in the year, as well)
I prefer the G1 with the circular 4 buttons vs the Lancaster's 5 umm small rectanguish buttons.
I prefer the G1 trackball over the Lancaster's big button?
I prefer the G1 spaced out keyboard over the bunched in keyboard of Lancaster.
I prefer the G1 bigger screen and resolution over the Lancaster's.
I prefer the Dream over the Lancaster, seriously what kind of name is Lancaster? LOL.
Mabye I'm just lookin at the picture and not the specs but this looks like its the same size as the magic but has the slide out keyboard which is a MUST for me. I thought the magic had the same size or larger screen *shrugs*. Seems like some folk are a bit jealous of this phone defending the G1 and all. lol Did you think there would never be another phone with a slide out? lol
Flat out it looks better than the G1 to me. I wanted to support Android by being an early adopter but I'm not gonna lie and say there aren't nicer looking phones than the G1. The Magic with a slide out is the best thing yet. I can see I'll be wanting to switch phones alot in the future.
*EDIT*
Finally looked at the specs. Somehow I get the feeling its not going to keep those video specs.
109 x 54 x 17.1mm
!!
converting to "english" that's
~ 4.3 x 2.16 x .67 inches
this thing is TINY
probably like the treo centro - aiming for the female consumer
??
Anyway, the Lancaster running for a USD 99 will be competing head-to-head with the Palm Eos and the Motorola Heron/Iron Man for the pockets of savvy txters/tweens on the Ma Bell.
