The HTC Sensation is getting close to that release date and everyone seems to be excited about it. We loved it in our initial review, and same goes for our sister site SlashGear and their review. Earlier in the week reports suggested the device was suffering from “death grip” style reception issues similar to the iPhone 4 problem. More information after the break.

Our friends over at SlashGear have been shooting a few questions regarding this at HTC and they’ve finally received a reply, basically the answer was “No” this is not an issue. The actual reply by HTC is singing a similar tune as Apple did over their “death grip” issues.

“Every phone experiences a slight variation in signal strength when the antenna is covered in its entirety by a palm and/or fingers” HTC explained. “However, under normal circumstances this does not affect the performance of the phone.”

So all you waiting patiently for the Sensation 4G feel free to jump on it come June 15th. I’d like to mention between our European version as well as the T-Mobile Sensation 4G versions we have on hand here at SlashGear/AndroidCommunity none experienced issues or signal losses different from any other device in a similar situation. Between this news and the fact that HTC is working on a bootloader fix for the Sensation 4G my worries are gone and I’ll be picking one up come next week. What about you guys?

  1. I want this phone. No doubt. If I go T-Mobile then there is only one option for me. Waiting on a third party price, though.

  2. I just want to know when Kal-el will make its way into phones. I don’t want to get this if the quad cores will be here in December waste of money for just 6 months of use. If someone could tell us I’m sure the decision would be easier for all of us.

  3. Here in Austin TX, June 8th. I just bought two HTC sensations.

They were not on display under glass yet – but they were in stock behind the display where the keep the inventory locked up.

Their un-released flyer has it for $148 each, and being available from June 12th to the 19th. BUT I got it today, June 8th. one for me and for my wife.
    IT ROCKS!!

At First, the clerk was not sure if he could sell it to me yet…. I got nervous has he started to check— expecting a big “no you have to wait unit the 12th”  BUT.. his system showed the release date as the 8th, and he sold me two of them.!

    YEAH ME!

  4. I got my Sensation on June 9 from a Walmart store.  I phone calls drop every day.  Before this phone, I had a T-Mobile Blackberry and never had a call dropped.  I am sure it is an issue with this phone.

  5. I’ve been using the HTC sensation about 2 weeks, and there is no problem at all. I’ve tried to hold it in various way, even try to block the antenna by my palm, by other things, hence the wifi signal does not fall. So far it is great phone. Either it is sensation or samsung galaxy s2 or iphone, it’s just the matter of preferences. Each smartphone has their own strength.
Before I bought the sensation, I was considering 4 smartphones: htc sensation, samsung galaxy s2,motorola atrix and iphone. In order to make a choice I tried all the smartphones by myself. So I ended up with htc sensation and I’m glad with my decision.
    The choice is yours.

  6. I had not read any of these reviews prior to getting my sensation, and I love the phone.  HTC sense has differences from stock Android, and that’s ok.  However I noticed that the phone has some signal issues which my HTC G2 does not – e.g.

The entire San Francisco area seemed to have terrible reception – so I dismissed it as a T-Mobile issue.  During this time, the Sensation 4G constantly switched down to 2G and then back up to 4G.  Then, in the hotel, when I had Wi-Fi connected, it would work, but it would fade out entirely and then slowly come back up on all the signal levels.

Back in New York City, I was in my bathroom and noticed that the signal died while I was looking at it – Wi-Fi and Cell – I live in a studio.  Then it recovered a few seconds later, and slowly got reconnected.  I sat it on the table and stared at it for a while and it was fine.  Then I got a phone call, and while I was in mid call on UMA, the call dropped – I hurriedly looked the screen and observed the same issue – all signal indicators had disappeared, and then slowly returned.

Then I went back to my bathroom (yes, I use the bathroom a lot) and was using my phone there (news and blogs, ok?) when, again, the signal died in the same fashion.

So it seems consistent to me that the phone has some signal reception issues.  I didn’t write this based on what other folks have written, but because this phone has been doing this while my G2 isn’t.

  7. I am getting constant call fading with my sensation. Going back to T-Mobile in a few minutes to begin process of “he said” – “they said”. I think it happens when the phone waivers between 4G and whatever other signal it is trying to find. 4G is not supposed to be available everywhere, but phone lights up with 4G a lot.

  8. You won’t even believe how easy this is to fix. There is a thread at the XDA forums.Go to WiFi SettingsHit MenuSelect AdvancedCheck the box next to “Best WiFi Performance”Done! The problem is 100% gone. The box is probably unchecked to save battery but they should not even have that option because it just leads to bad publicity. They should just leave it checked by default.

  9. Got my HTC sensation early of aug. Got stuck with the “ring”. Can’t be pull and have to restart the phone. Sometimes, after unlocking the phone, half of the screen is blank. Sent in and was given an exhange 1 to 1.
Now using second phone. Problems is auto shut down. Sometimes even 5 times a day. Another thins is it lags! Intermittent lagging. Brought back to the service center. They mentioned I shouldn’t use 2rd party software. I asked do you have any customers reporting this, “No” was the answered given. Maybe they didn’t check online to see others’ comments.:)
