The Motorola DEFY is being advertised as the phone that can handle anything your life throws at it. Yesterday, we threw it into a pool– and it survived. We saw it sink to the bottom of a swimming pool while it was filming with it’s onboard camera- pretty impressive. With a little more time with the device we are able to share some of our first impressions.

Proving to be an impressive device with it’s 3.7-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen with Gorilla Glass, 5 MP camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS it’s definitely a solid option for any Android fan. Built on top of Android 2.1 it is equipped with the latest MOTOBLUR which brings enhanced social network integration.

Our initial impressions prove that the phone is a very solid device. A little bit of extra heft comes from the rugged nature of the phone but it’s nothing too serious. It’s overall pretty fast, as well. With 2GB of ROM and an 800MHz TI OMAP3610 we feel that it gets the job done, but it’s a bit lackluster compared to some HTC phones shipping with the second-gen Qualcomm chips.

You can pick up your own Motorola DEFY starting this week. With a two-year contract the phone is at a ridiculously reasonable price of $99.99. Expect our full review of the device coming here shortly.
