DataViz launches Documents to Go 2.0 for Android

11 August 2009 by Shane McGlaun

The ability to natively view and edit Microsoft Office documents on smartphones is often limited to Windows Mobile devices only. For other platforms to be able to do this requires third party software like Documents to Go from DataViz.

DataViz has announced that the new 2.0 version of Documents to Go for Android devices is now available. The new version allows viewing, editing, and creating of PowerPoint files in the latest file formats. Users can view Adobe PDF files with full options.

The new version also enhances support for Word and Excel files with viewing and editing of Word .doc and .docx files and Excel .xls and .xlsx files. A free version of the newly updated software is also available that lets users view Word and Excel files.

  1. The upgrade is nice, most notable is the addition of a pdf reader which does basic text editing. They also included a power point reader/editor. The word docs load much faster, the pdf reader is still a little laggy but then again i did open a 65Mb file. Olivia munn looked great zoomed in.
  2. I am at a loss to understand why this product is of any use at all on Android phones. I downloaded it and after visiting the support pages on the Dataviz website I now find out that "Android mail does not support the download of any files other than images and media" ie I can't download any Word or Excel files anyway. I am rapidly becoming very disillusioned with my HTC Magic device - if I can't open email attachments it is a giant leap backwards from my Blackberry. Can anyone help me? Thanks.
  3. To download & save email attachments I use K-9 for email instead of the default mail app. It's a free download in the market. Based on the standard email app but with more functionality, like of course, saving attachments. I use K-9 to download, save and resend documents all the time.
  4. Hi Crashdamage -- many thanks for the tip. Downloaded the K-9 app and all works fine. I am using Offiviewer to read pdfs and Dataviz for Word and Excel files. I live in New Zealand and we can't get paid apps from Android Market here .... what a pain. Things you find out after you have bought ... Thanks again. G.
