There are aviation-themed apps and games that are just for fun and entertainment, and then there are those that can actually be used for training and more serious endeavors (but are still fun!). A new simulation app available for Android device seem to be the second kind, and is in fact licensed by the actual US Navy. The Blue Angels – Aerobatic Sim has actually received a three-year license to use the name Blue Angels, which is the official flight demonstration squad of the Navy.

In the game, you can actually become part of the Blue Angels by training and experiencing the stunts and demos first hand. Well, digitally of course. You can use the Pilot F/A-18 fighter and C-130 “Fat Albert” transport aircraft and learn all about what is expected of you when you do your runs and flips over real air show locales with a view from the cockpit itself. The simulation mode will let you experience all the roles of an actual Blue Angels pilot.

The Airshow Mode meanwhile will let you do an actual exhibition, complete with a custom sequence of maneuvers and official scenarios, including NAF El Centro, NAS Key West, Reno, Elmendorf AFB and Baltimore. In fact, your goal is to complete all of those different kinds of airshows. Lastly, the Additive Mode lets you experiment a little bit as you can create your own aerobatic figures. You have full control of whatever you want your aircraft to do like make loops, light the smoke, aim nose up, etc.

You can download the Blue Angels – Aerobatic Sim from the Google Play Store for free. There are also some in-app purchases, which may appeal to those who seriously want to use this app for vicarious flight demos.
