The Z Launcher from Nokia apps, despite still being in beta mode, is a bit different from the other launchers available in the market. Instead of letting you customize your home screen, it actually studies which apps you use most often and puts them where you can access them easily. It also has a scribble function that lets you launch apps without having to go through the whole app list. An update to the app now makes it easier than ever to use this function because of synonyms.

So now if you scribble the word music, all the music apps that you have installed in your device, whether it’s Spotify, iRadio, or even a video app that has audio like YouTube will appear and you can tap which one you want to use. Scribbling email will bring up all other email apps, browser will give you Chrome, Firefox, etc. So and so forth and you get the picture. But since this is a new feature and the app is still in beta, the choices seems to be a little limited for now. But hopefully it will improve.

Another new feature for the updated app is the inclusion of WhatsApp contacts in the scribble points, so that when you write one of their names, the contact itself or the conversations you’re having with them will show up. But you need to use this one a lot so that it can study your pattern and so your contacts will appear faster.

Of course the update also brings you the usual performance improvements and bug fixes. If you haven’t tried out the app yet, you can download Z Launcher Beta for free from the Google Play Store.
