When you’re watching your favorite shows on YouTube TV, you’re probably doing something else as well, like working or cooking or whatever else it is that may prevent you from comfortably controlling the app. Well if you’re one of the lucky users that Google has randomly picked, you will now be able to issue voice commands if you prefer just giving verbal instructions to the app instead of doing it “old school” and actually tap and swipe on your app.

If you see a floating action button with a microphone on your YouTube TV app, that means you already have the “voice remote” feature. You can give it commands like “go back to my last channel” or “play (insert specific channel here)”. You can even control the volume of the app with your voice and also skip around the videos in recorded programs. You probably can do some commands with your digital voice assistant, but a native voice remote seems handy.

A few months ago, there was a voice remote support page that appeared for the YouTube TV app. But months passed by and we didn’t get a hint as to when it would appear or if it would ever actually roll out. There has been no official announcement from Google yet though so we don’t know if this is already fully functional or just an initial rollout.

The voice remote feature isn’t something you can access once you’ve updated your YouTube TV app. It seems they’re randomly rolling out this feature to selected users so you will just have to wait and see. When it’s available for your account, you’ll see a popup message in the app.
