Multi-room systems are becoming the in thing for the audio enthusiasts as you want to have access to your music wherever you are in the house. Yamaha is another brand that wants to get in the game. Their first foray into this product line is called MusicCast system that can integrate more than 20 products from the company like sound bars, monitors, speakers, and receivers. It also supports streaming from devices through WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and also for various formats.
One thing that makes this particular multi-room system stand out is that it supports five audio formats with lossless quality, namely FLAC, WAV, Apple Lossless, AIFF, and native DSD streams up to 5.6 MHz. It can play music that is saved on your smartphone, tablet, or computer but it can also stream from other sources like Spotify, Pandora, SiriusXM, Rhapsody, and soon, more music streaming services as well.
Yamaha is of course introducing new products to fit into this MusicCast system, the first of which is the MusicCast Wireless Speaker. It comes in black or white colors and can control the playback from your devices through the MusicCast app that can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. The multi-direction speaker will start shipping by September and is priced at $250.
More products will come soon, like the YSP-1600 sound bar ($500) and the YSP-5600 sound bar ($1,700) coming in September and December respectively. If you have any previous Yamaha audio products, unfortunately, this cannot be integrated into the MusicCast system, at least not yet. No word if they will ever introduce a dongle or adapter so they can join the multi-room party.
