This is crazy. Xiaomi is crazy. It’s the first time we’re hearing about a foldable phone from Xiaomi but the former top Chinese OEM is showing off a working device. Evan Blass once again shared an interesting bit about a mysterious tablet that suddenly transformed into a smartphone. It’s 2019 so we’re expecting such foldable devices to be released left and right although we’re not sure which ones or which brands will work for most consumers. All we’ve been seeing are concept images but this video shows us the possibility.
Blass isn’t sure about the authenticity of the video but the device is said to be by Xiaomi–allegedly. It looks like it actually works.
What appears to be a tablet suddenly transforms into a smartphone. That’s a map on the screen then when closed, still shows a map. The page exits to a home screen, showing a regular smartphone view.
We’ve heard about several reports about foldable phones but mostly are simply concepts, patents, and ideas. Plans of top OEMs like Samsung, Huawei, LG, and OPPO have been heard already. This is the first time we’re hearing about a Xiaomi foldable phone so we’re surprised about this development.
Actually, we’re floored that Xiaomi has a foldable phone already but that’s nothing new when it comes to the Chinese manufacturers. They can go ahead of anybody else in the world and still be able to command an affordable price. We’re assuming this Xiaomi foldable phone will be decent and affordable enough for most consumers. Let’s wait and see.
Can't speak to the authenticity of this video or device, but it's allegedly made by Xiaomi, I'm told. Hot new phone, or gadget porn deepfake? pic.twitter.com/qwFogWiE2F
