Weighing scales are either your best friend or worst enemy (well the latter if you’re facing some weight management issues). But if you’re concerned with your health (not just your weight), you probably need to glance at one every once in a while. Nokia Health’s newest product, the Withings Body Cardio will give you more than just your weight as it is the first one to bring Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV) to the scale, together with other important information you’ll get when you step on it.

Your weight is not the only factor that you would need to know in order to assess whether you’re healthy or not. When you step on your Withings Body Cardio, you will also find out your BMI, body composition (fat, muscle, water & bone mass), standing heart rate, and for the first time in home scales, your Pulse Wave Velocity measurements can also be seen. This is important because you can check out your cardiac health and track if you’re at risk for hypertension or any cardiovascular incidents.

The medical community considers PWV as “the best standalone assessments of cardiac health”. It is computed from your age and the time it takes for your blood to “flow from the aorta in the heart to the vessels in the feet.” It is important for those who have been diagnosed with high blood pressure or other chronic diseases so you can monitor if you’re already at risk for other more serious cardio diseases.

The Withings Body Cardio works with its app, Health Mate, to help you stay healthy by giving you the information you need. It is only 0.7 inches thin with a flat aluminum base and uses heat-tempered glass. It is available at Apple stores and through Withings.com for $179.95.

  1. Health Mate App does not work with Nexus 6P running Android 6.0.1. It freezes and stops and does not even allow all of my Withings devices to work or set up. I have Blood Pressure Monitor and all 3 scales.
