If you’re on the WhatsApp beta program that lets you try out new features and improvements even before it rolls out to the rest of the world, they have a few significant changes in the latest update. You now get a quick reply option without having to open the app, the ability to select multiple contacts and apply a common action for all of them, and the option to apply solid color wallpapers for your home screen.
The quick reply from notifications is a pretty nifty thing for any app to have. It saves time and a few steps just to be able to reply or take action on an app, and for busy people, that’s always a good thing. The pop-up window that you get when you receive a WhatsApp message shows the recipient, the actual message, and of course some reply options. You have a text box, an emoji panel, and a voice message option. You also get the option to close the message without responding to it, or to view the whole message on the WhatsApp app itself.
Meanwhile, in a group conversation, you now get better options when you long press on a profile or group image, as well as singular or multiple contacts. You get the Archive, Mute/Unmute, Mark read/unread, etc. You can also now apply these actions when you select multiple contacts, but only the common denominator actions that can be applied to these contacts.
Lastly, aside from getting a new wallpaper selector layout (finally, since this hasn’t changed since 2011), you also get the option to choose solid color wallpapers, because not everyone wants abstract paintings or swirly patterns on their home screens. All these updates to the beta version can either be downloaded from the APK Mirror, or you can wait for it to rollout to you, if you’re part of the beta program.
