Samsung’s Creative Lab Projects (or C-Lab) is a good incubator for great creative tech-related ideas from their employees which they can actually create in the real world. One of the creations that resulted from that is WELT, a smart belt which you can use to monitor your health and also use practically as a fashion accessory. Their crowd-funding campaign is up and running on Kickstarter and it looks like we’ll be seeing this product in the market by next year.
Basically, this wearable has four major functions aside from being worn as something to keep your pants up or to accessorize your outfit. First, it will track your waist size all throughout the day, as it is one of the indicators of gauging your overall health. It can sense sizes from 28 to 44 inches in circumference. WELT can also track your steps, just like with other wearables, since it has an embedded pedometer. It will also show you how much calories you’ve already burned because of your walking.
Third, WELT also calculates how long you’ve been inactive by measuring how long you’ve sat the whole day. We all know that sitting for a long time is actually a health risk so this should be a good reminder for us to walk around every once in a while in the office. Lastly, your wearable will indicate if you’re already overeating by looking at the variations in waist size, which is an indication also of your calorie intake.
WELT has a 20-day battery life and can be charged through a micro-USB. It also comes in various colors like burgundy, light brown, beige, morange, black, blue, etc. They’ve already reached their funding goal of $30,000 but you can still support and get an earlybird discount, starting at $119.
