Android Auto is slowly becoming a standard in some of the latest vehicles from top car manufacturers. Just yesterday, the 2015 Hyundai Sonata owners were given the go signal to finally download Android Auto on their digital dashboards. The car is the first to officially receive the platform and we can expect more models will get the dashboard connectivity very soon.

It may take a while for other vehicles but we know a number of brands about to take advantage of Android Auto including the 2016 Honda Accord, 2016 LaCrosse and Regal from Buick, 2016 Cadillac car models, and the 2016 Chevrolet car lineup. That’s a long list already and we’re excited to know when these cars are finally getting Android Auto connectivity. Most of these vehicles also have the CarPlay option but we’re only interested in Android.

Volkswagen recently introduced the ‘MIB II infotainment system’ which will be available on 2016 models. The new system is said to feature a new services platform that allows Car-Net connection on a Volkswagen vehicle. The aim of the system is to provide an efficient and comprehensive way to connect with cars. The service hopes to bring consumers quicker access to information.

We were told Volkswagen would be showing off the new infotainment system this July. We hope to check out the upcoming Volkswagen models with Modular Infotainment Platform, MIB-II, in several dealer showrooms soon enough.

The platform features three key areas: Security & Service, Guide & Inform, and App-Connect. The last feature is the one responsible for integration with different available interfaces like Android Auto, MirrorLink, and Apple CarPlay. The “Guide & Inform” feature improves navigation and infotainment systems while “Security & Service” has something to do with telematics and other connected car services.

This MIB II infotainment platform launch, the company is hopeful to offer the most comprehensive suite of connectivity in the car industry. With all these developments, more consumers are expected to integrate their smart mobile devices with the dashboard system for better connectivity. It’s actually the second modular infotainment platform by Volkswagen already but with the release of Android Auto, it’s important for the company to support Google’s very own in-vehicle system.
