With one week to go before the new Star Wars film, The Force Awakens finally hits the theater, you can expect anticipation, not to mention marketing, hit fever pitch over the next few days. We’ve seen accessories like power banks, thumb drives, smartphone cases, all come out (whether they’re official is another question). But what if you wanted to take your fandom to the next level and have a Star Wars themed smartphone? Verizon and Motorola have got you covered with the special edition Star Wars Droid Turbo 2.
Back in 2010, when the divisive prequels were but a distant memory, the R2-D2 Droid phone was released by Verizon and even though the specs of it were plain and simple, it was still pretty cool, particularly for hardcore fans of the film series. The Droid Turbo 2 is a more rugged version of the Moto X series and so the specs aren’t something to be ashamed of, like its 5.4-inch display, its Snapdragon 810 processor, and its 21MP main camera.
But of course an important aspect of this device is the design itself. You can choose which character you want to carry for the next year or so (or months if you change smartphones that often) through Moto Maker, although it really is just the color scheme of the device, the back cover, as well as the wallpaper and theme that you’re choosing. You can have Rey, Poe Dameron, BB-8, or if you’re more of a dark side kind of person, you can have Kylo Ren or a First Order Storm Trooper.
Verizon says the Star Wars modifications will be available on the Moto Maker site tomorrow so you can start customizing your device already. As for the price, it really depends on what enhancements you’ll be adding, but it’s basically the same as the more extravagant options for the Motorola Droid Turbo 2. So yeah, being a hardcore fan is really a tad expensive.
