In a digital world where you expect new things every 10 minutes or so, an update is still an update, no matter if it’s minor. Verizon is bringing a minor software update to two LG smartphones: the LG V10 and the LG G5. While you probably cannot expect your devices to get life-changing updates, it still is a good idea to always get your software to the latest version, for stability and also to have the new things or improvements they’re introducing.
For the LG V10, the software version VS99023A brings improvements in the WiFi calling performance. While they didn’t specify what kind of improvements you’ll have, if you make a lot of calls using this mode instead of the regular way, using your carrier’s provided minutes, then you should probably appreciate this update. When you connect your device through USB to a computer or laptop, you’ll get a popup message, clarifying what you’ll use the USB connection for: charging, file transfer, photo transfer, software installation, tethering, or MIDI device.
The USB connection clarification is also included in the update for the current flagship, the LG G5. But aside from that, you will also now get an option to have an app drawer in your device’s built-in launcher. That was one of the criticisms about this smartphone, but now they are bringing it back so you can have an option to use it or just look for an app that will give you an app drawer (and sometimes 3rd party apps are better at it).
Both updates are conducted over-the-air (OTA) so when you get the notification that the update is ready, make sure you’re connected to a stable WiFi network and that your battery is fully charged of course. Happy updating!
