While most of the newer devices are already preparing for the arrival of Android 7.0 Nougat, there are still those “languishing” in Lollipop purgatory while waiting to be upgraded to last year’s update. One of those devices is the first generation Samsung Galaxy Tab S. But if you’re on Verizon, the good news is the wait is almost over. The carrier has announced they are rolling out the update for the tablet and it will be an upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Once you’ve updated your tablet, you will now be able to enjoy all the Marshmallow goodies some of us have been enjoying for the past few months. This includes the Doze feature which saves us a bit in terms of battery usage and the redesigned app permissions which lets us customize what to allow or not allow some apps to do. Not a lot of people enjoyed Google Now on Tap, as evidenced by the fact that Google is rethinking of rebranding and changing it, but at least the option is there.

The update has also removed some of the apps that have been previously pre-installed like VZ Navigator, Amazon Music, Amazon Appstore, e-Meeting, and WebEx. If you still want to install them, then you can do it manually of course. Other new things included in the update are a better way to select your preferred apps, new pen settings and tools, etc.

The rollout is of course not all at the same time so check first if it’s reached you already. And before you update, make sure your connection is stable and your device is sufficiently charged.
