Verily may be very well known as the more health-focused group in Alphabet. In case you didn’t know, it’s Google’s sibling that is into healthcare and fitness tracking activities. There’s no official launch yet but the brand is believed to be launching a Verily wearable device. It’s not a fully Android Wear smartwatch but simply just a fitness tracker.
CTO Brian Otis has been spotted wearing a Verily smartwatch recently. It looks like any basic watch but we heard it’s really more for health and fitness. Compared to the previous squarish prototype, the new model features a round screen and looks more like an analog with the e-paper.
We heard the wearable device is set in bronze and comes with a pink rubber strap watch. So far, the watch shows only the time and nothing else, at least for now. According to Otis, that’s intentional because they want to use less energy unlike other devices that actually require more power. The problem with the smartwatches today is you need to charge them regularly to last a day or two.
Some of the features of this Verily watch include the outer ring that works as a mini an electrocardiogram (ECG) measure of one’s heart rate. Inside are optical sensor for more tracking. There’s also a set of bioimpedance sensors that can track galvanic skin response as described.
We’re still not sure if Verily will release this one commercially. This could be for research and development purposes only but we’re very much interested how Alphabet will change the health and fitness tracking arena.
