We didn’t see this one coming but Samsung has won a patent battle against Apple. We know there’s always been bad blood between the two tech giants but last Friday, a jury verdict was overturned in a US appeals court. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C. released the decision last weekend and said two things Samsung wanted to hear: they did not infringe an Apple patent and it was in fact Apple who did infringe a Samsung patent.

That sounded simple but this fight has long been going on. Samsung was even once asked to pay Apple a billion dollars. The feud is only getting bigger each year but at least the discussion about the auto-correct and slide-to-unlock patents is almost over. It’s clear–Samsung did not infringe the quick links patent and the features we mentioned a while ago.

Apple didn’t release a statement about the matter but Samsung is happy with the decisions. “Today’s decision is a win for consumer choice and puts competition back where it belongs – in the marketplace, not in the courtroom,” says a Samsung spokeswoman.

The past years, the mobile gods have been in favor of Apple but this time, Samsung has won the hearts of the U.S. Supreme Court. It was a unanimous decision by a panel of three Federal Circuit judges. The ruling overturned was related to a verdict handed download almost two years ago. According to the appeals court, Samsung did not infringe on any technology to detect or link a specific data.
