A few days after some images of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy A8 were leaked, now we have Chinese telecoms governing body TENAA posting on their site that the phablet has passed their certification. It doesn’t actually call the device by the official name but instead uses the model number SM-A8000, but we all know which smartphone it refers to. The image on the site also looks similar to the ones that were leaked last week, giving even more credence that the images have some sort of legitimacy.
According to the TENAA listing, the Galaxy A8 will indeed come with a 5.7-inch (and not 5.5 as previously reported in a benchmark site) AMOLED display with Full HD resolution. It will have 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, which of course can be upped to 128GB courtesy of a micro SD card. It lists the octa-core processor as clocking in at 1.5GHz, although the name of the chipset isn’t included. But based on previous rumors, it will probably be a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615. The 158 x 76.77 x 5.94 mm measurements all point to the Galaxy A8 being Samsung‘s thinnest smartphone yet.
There is a bit of confusion when it comes to the camera, as the listing shows an 8MP camera with 16MP in parentheses. But given that its predecessor, the Galaxy A7 has a 13MP camera, the 16MP specs would be more on the mark. What is sure though (well, as sure as we can get from TENAA) is that the front-facing camera will be 5MP.
There is no word yet as to when the official launch of the Samsung Galaxy A8 will be, but those who are looking for a new, bigger smartphone or phablet will probably wait a little longer. But given this TENAA certification, this might happen sooner than expected.
