One of the most hated phrases of both consumers and consumer products is “product recall”, even more so when there are safety risks involved. The one having a nightmare now is UK tech firm EE after they were forced to recall one batch of their Power Bar chargers after several incidents of overheating were reported, with one even getting severe burns from the battery. Replacements will be issued once their investigation has been concluded, according to their official statement.
But before you start panicking and running to your nearest local EE store and throwing your Power Bars at them, check first what batch they are. If it says Model No: E1-06 as indicated in the picture below, then you need to immediately stop using the charger and unplug it from your smartphones and mains. You then need to go to the closest EE store to you. They will not be able to give you the replacement unit though as they are still conducting their investigation.
It all started when a medical student from Aberdeen was brought to a hospital suffering from severe burns after her EE charger overheated (also known as the stuff of digital nightmares). EE says that as many as five incidents have been reported, although as to what extent the injuries were (or if there were any) was not included. They have all been traced to that batch, model E1-06.
EE assures users that no other batches have been affected as they have not received reports of any other incidents involving non E1-06 batteries. But for those affected batches, they should head to the nearest EE store to return the Power Bars.
