The more we use ride-sharing to get to our preferred destinations, the more features people will think of that they would need from the services. Uber, arguably the most popular of the services available, said that one of the most requested features from their loyal users is to have the ability to get a ride or to pay for the rides of family, colleagues, and friends. They are now introducing a new feature called Family Profiles, and they are testing it out in three key cities: Atlanta, Dallas, and Phoenix.

With the Family Profiles, you can let up to 10 people share one payment method and request for rides from the owner of that profile. This will only work if you have the latest version of the Uber app of course. If you’re the Family Profile organizer, all you have to do is go to the settings, add a family profile, then select the contacts you want to include there. Of course your payment profile is the one that’s going to be used for charging.

Who you add is not actually limited to family members. The word “family” is just a term that they’re using, so you can add whomever you want (as long as it’s not more than 10 people). When the contact accepts the invite, they can start requesting rides and the bill will be charged to the Family Profile.

Since the rollout is still pretty limited, we don’t know yet if this will be a hit or not. But we’re pretty sure they’ll add more cities and hopefully countries to have this Family Profile feature. But if you’re in any of the three pilot cities, update your Uber so you can try it out already.
