Since display and intrusive advertising have basically earned the ire of most mobile users and so the age of native advertising is upon us. This refers to promotions that look like your other “normal” content in a social network or app, but with the “promoted post” label. Twitter has been giving us promoted tweets in our timeline for some time, but now they’ll be adding promoted Moments to monetize on this new feature that they recently introduced.

Moments was introduced to the Twitter-verse just two weeks ago so you could easily monitor important live events and breaking news. But now the micro-blogging giant, which has been financially embattled for years, will now want to cash in on advertisers looking for prime digital real estate, and Moments is a fresh space for that. Advertisers will be given a “channel” so they can curate tweets, videos, pictures, and other content, much like any Moment. Through this, they will be able to tell their “story” right on Twitter, without having to lead people to a website.

According to Matt Derella, Twitter’s vice president of revenue for North America, advertisers will be offered prominent display on relevant timelines through Moments. Instead of curators creating content, it will be brands. But don’t be afraid that your timeline will be inundated with these promoted posts. They are expecting to have just one Promoted Moment each day, and so the ad rates for this will most likely be high.

The first to use this new advertising feature will be MGM, Warner Bros, and New Line Cinema who will be promoting their upcoming film, Creed, a boxing movie starring Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone. This film is also a spin-off of the popular Rocky film series.
