A few months ago we told you about a rumored super secret project that Twitter was working on, codenamed Project Lightning, which will curate important tweets regarding real-time events. Well now, the secret is out as Twitter officially unveiled a new feature called Moments which will give users even more new content to discover and become updated on important (and maybe not so relevant) events happening ATM (that’s at the moment if you don’t know millennial acronyms).
When you look at your Twitter now, you’ll be able to see a new tab with a lightning bolt (hence Project Lightning) called Moments. It curates the most important and relevant tweets and links about a certain topic or news item that’s causing Twitter buzz. It’s not just shown in a timeline format, but rather in a magazine-type UI that you can swipe through, featuring text and multi-media items as well.
The tweets aren’t just from people you follow, but also from those that you don’t but have relevant information on the topic/item that you clicked. It will allow you to discover new information and new Twitter accounts that you may like to follow as well. You can also follow certain topics, not just accounts. Aside from the ability to RT individual tweets in that timeline, you can actually share and embed an entire moment, so that some of the tweets will appear in your timeline, but only during the duration of the event.
If you’re living outside the US, don’t get too excited yet though. For now, it will only be available for US users on both desktop and mobile. Eventually of course, it will roll out to the rest of the world. And control over the tweets featured will also be available soon so that users can curate the content to their own preference.
