Have you ever had that moment when you want to forward a tweet to a friend, either because they’ll find it interesting or it’s something about them but you don’t want it to be seen in public. Well you can copy the link to the tweet then go to your Direct Messages then start a conversation with the friend and then paste the link there. Or it may be one too many steps for you and you just decide to not send the tweet at all. Well Twitter now wants to make it easier for you by adding a message button on all the tweets on your timeline.
This basically means that when you find an interesting, hilarious, informative, or controversial tweet that you want to discuss privately with a friend, just click on that message/envelope button, which you’ll find on the furthermost right, next to the heart button, and that tweet will then be DM-ed to whoever you want to DM it to. There are various reasons why you’d just want to DM it rather than tag them when you RT that tweet, but that’s not relevant. All we know is that you can now send it privately in just two steps.
Twitter has been paying particular attention to the Direct Message component of the social network the past year or so, making it more appealing for users by letting you add GIFs, emojis, group messaging, and of course, letting you go beyond the 140 character limit (at least in DMs), maybe even letting you compose a novella already in just one DM.
The rollout for the Message button in the Twitter timeline has started rolling out for Android users. You can check if you already have it and then update immediately and let the private sharing begin.
