Three UK has some exciting news for their subscribers today, with improvements across the board. Now, Three UK customers will enjoy a bigger, better network and a bit more freedom. Roaming charges are being waved for travel to more destinations, including the USA.

Their 4G network rollout is continuing across the UK, and Three has ramped up the process. They are reportedly speeding up the tower fixes, and plan to have the rollout complete by the end of Q1 2014. That gives a pretty big portion of Three customers access to 4G early next year, all at no price hike.

Three UK is also dropping roaming charges for the USA, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Macau. This gives Three customers access to plan features while traveling, though it does still charge for calls make to non Three UK customers. We think the data alone makes it worthwhile when traveling.

All tolled, we’re impressed with the subtle changes. They’re important ones to make, and remind us of T-Mobile’s “Un-carrier” approach here in the states. They currently have this free roaming feature available for other countries — Australia, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, and Sweden — but the USA is a major improvement. We also like their dedication to the network, and overall customer-first approach.

  1. do we know which network they will prefer in the states? The first thought in my head when i saw this article was maybe t-mobile usa and Three UK worked together for better roaming.
