Most war games on Android will feature you either as a commander of an army who moves troops and vehicles around the battlefield, or a soldier right there in the thick of the battle. But the indie produced game “This War of Mine” hits you right in the grim reality feels – that in war there are civilians who are affected. This is the premise of the game produced by 11 Bit Studios initially for PC but is now available for pre-order on Android.

This serious game (oxymoron?) puts you in the place not as a shooter in the war, but in a group of civilians trying to survive the carnage going on around them. As a player, you need to find food and shelter, all the while making sure that you are in a safe place. The game is mostly introspective and presents you with difficult choices. Do you steal food from the elderly? Do you fight soldiers who take advantage of innocent people?

The game is graphics heavy, and your device should be able to at least match these requirements – an Adreno 320, Tegra 3, or PowerVR SGX 544 graphics chip, on a device running Android 4.0 or higher. If you are on a device with a Mali GPU, the game might run, but the developers are not guaranteeing great performance.

The nice thing about this game is that when you purchase it for USD$9.99, you automatically get a free PC version for gaming on that platform as well. Not only that, the developers have pledged to donate 15% of the profits to “War Child”, a UK-based charitable organization that provides support for youth in areas where there is armed conflict. The game will be available by the end of July, so you can go ahead an pre-order at the source link below.

[UPDATE] The game is now available via the Google Play Store (check the download link below). Also, they came out with an Android tablet gameplay trailer, check it out below.
