Vivo is making some of the more interesting smartphones today. There are people who will say they are futuristic and we can agree because each one is a first of its kind. We remember that Vivo X20 with UD which was already followed-up by the X21 UD with 19:9 aspect ratio. There’s also the Vivo APEX FullView but it’s only a concept Android phone. Next in line is the Vivo NEX that comes with a fully bezel-less screen and on-screen fingerprint reader. We’ve been looking forward to a 100% screen-to-body ratio but we know it’s impossible to achieve at this point.
Vivo just rolled out the NEX flagship phone in China. There’s no notch but there’s the Ultra FullView Display, offering a 91.24% screen-to-body ratio. NEX could mean “next” as the phone delivers innovation. The design is cutting-edge and technologies offer impressive performance. The Vivo NEX shows us what is next in the smartphone technology including the pop-up camera.
Vivo’s Senior Vice President Alex Feng has this to say about the Vivo NEX:
“The launch of NEX finally brings an end to the industry’s pursuit of a true bezel-less device. We have spent many long months developing a host of new breakthrough technologies to realize this vision of the future smartphone. Vivo will also evolve from a manufacturer to an innovative technology company that delivers hardware, software and services.”
The smartphone boasts an in-display fingerprint scanning technology plus an elevating front camera. We can consider this as a truly bezel-less device because of the very small bezels. Such is achieved with the unique hidden camera design, offering a new mobile photography experience.
Vivo NEX sports a 6.59-inch Super AMOLED screen, 2316 × 1080 FHD+ resolution, 8MP elevating front shooter, Screen SoundCasting Technology, 8GB RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, Adreno 630 GPU, and 128GB onboard storage. The phone features a glass and metal build and that revolutionary fingerprint sensor just underneath the screen.
The Screen SoundCasting Technology makes it possible for NEX to replace the earpiece speaker. This new tech turns the screen into a speaker. It’s another reason why the top bezel is reduced. Audio quality is made better with softer and smoother treble and more powerful bass–all made possible by this technology. Reduced bezels are also possible with the 3rd-gen In-Display Fingerprint Scanning Technology that promises speed and accuracy.
The NEX is the third phone since the X20UD and X21 to use the under-display fingerprint sensor. The new front fingerprint access offers reliable and quick access that most OEMs cannot offer just yet. But like most phone brands today, the Vivo NEX also features a number of AI photo capabilities including AI Photo Composition, AI Filters, AI HDR, and AI Scene Recognition. With these AI features, anyone can capture great images regardless of one’s skill level, subject, or lighting environment.
The Vivo NEX also features an updated Jovi Intelligent Voice Assistant. It’s the OEM’s very own smart assistant that lets you call out voice commands. The device offers a dedicated AI button and Image Identification. Just say the magic words and the Vivo APEX will do whatever tasks you want to accomplish.
Vivo NEX will be out in China soon. No information on pricing yet but we’ll let you know once available.
