Holographic Display

The future is here. These are the first words that came to my mind when I saw the Holus concept. Star Wars fans will be delighted that this could be the holoprojector they’ve been dreaming about. I like the idea of the holograms on Iron Man more but I never really imagined we’d see such in our lifetime. Sure, display and projector technologies are rapidly evolving and this perhaps is one of the most interactive yet. It’s something that’s really “achievable”.

Hplustech, team behind Holus, aims to bring the digital and real world together by making a 3D holographic experience from a simple 2D digital content. By converting 2D to 3D, a hologram is shown on the table as an interactive display. With the Holus platform, anyone can convert a flat 2D image into a 3D hologram for a unique experience we only used to imagine before.

Holus is still a concept but the designers are hoping it would turn into a reality because why not? Images or videos from a tablet, phone, or computer turning into a 3D holographic display would be so cool. It may still look a bit bulky but technology will definitely progress in the long run and soon we’ll have a slimmer version or better yet, a floating or “invisible” platform.

Who knew this would be possible? Well, we know time will come when all our holographic sci-fi dreams will become a reality but maybe not in our lifetime. The Holus could set a precedent for the future of holograms and 3D graphic displays. It could be anything: a family entertainment system, a business tool, or just about anything to developers who have started to imagine what to do with the Holus.

Holus Interactive Tabletop Holographic Display 3

The Holus features enhanced interaction and motion tracking. It definitely brings a different 3D and virtual reality experience. You can play games face-to-face with family and friends on the Holus or explore the game from different angles. There’s also the possibility of holographic teleconferencing where you could “see” a contact from wherever as if they are really near you. This can also be used before 3D printing as it can help you visualize your model. Explore the littlest details using the Holus so you won’t waste any resources.

Holus can also interact with other devices like Leap Motion, making use of gesture recognition. Holus will also introduce the first holographic assistant named Omi. This one is still a concept but once it becomes a reality, it’s expected to change the virtual and augmented reality game. This Holus will finally bring 3D holograms on our tabletops.

Pledge goal is $50,000 but as of this writing, more than $171,000 have been donated by more than 230 backers. With 29 more days to go and with a very exciting concept, we’re expecting a higher amount–maybe even millions to be raised. We just hope the team will definitely put this into production and make things happen. Otherwise, some other developers and bigger companies will copy the idea and bring the product ahead of them.

This is a crowdfunded project, and as such may not deliver what its creators initially promise. Most crowdfunding sites, like Kickstarter and Indiegogo, have policies about what happens to your money if the project fails to deliver on its goals, but choosing to back a project is inevitably a risk. Android Community’s reporting on crowdfunded projects should in no way be seen as an endorsement, unless specifically stated, and we recommend closely examining the terms and conditions to understand your individual rights as a backer before making a pledge.

  1. Do you guys plan on releasing these in different colors? Red Holus would look pretty cool! Add in a touch of gold here and there and you guys would be surely on your way to working on an endorsement with Tony Stark, haha.
