The next season of Game of Thrones is still far, far away and so you’ve probably been suffering from separation anxiety from your favorite TV series. The release of the next book is also still unknown and so your only recourse now is to play games based on the book or the series. If you’ve been thinking of getting into Telltale Games’ Game of Thrones game series (whew, that’s a lot of games!), now is your chance to try it out as they’re making the first episode, Iron From Ice, free (hopefully forever).

If you’re not familiar yet with the Telltale Games version of GoT, this is based more on the series rather than the books. And while it is set in the same universe and almost the same timeline, it’s a totally different story about a “fictional” family from House Forrester who are also caught up in the middle of all the Westeros craziness. Even though the characters don’t exist either in the book or in the series, they do interact with actual characters from HBO’s hit TV show. So if you’ve been dilly dallying about getting the game because of its price tag (it’s $4.99 each episode). But now that they’re making the first episode free, now is your chance to see what the fuss is all about.

The free episode is also part of Telltale Games’ plan to get people hooked on the game series, since they announced that the 6th and final episode of Game of Thrones (the game, not the TV show, don’t panic) will be released this November 17. Entitled the Ice Dragon, the game features voices from actors from the TV shows, in character of course, like Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell), and Iwan Rheon (Ramsay Snow).

While waiting for the last game to arrive, you can start playing the game with the free first episode. You can download Game of Thrones from the Google Play Store, and each subsequent episode can be purchased in-app for $4.99. You can get a 15% discount if you get the Season Pass where you can get all 6 games.
