While most people probably wouldn’t want to read a piece by piece breakdown of a smartphone, we would most likely be interested to know how much the main components of the one you’re planning to buy would cost to see if you’re getting your money’s worth. Research firm IHS has done a teardown analysis of the new Samsung Galaxy S7 and their results showed that the components cost around $255, which is practically the same as the flagship two years ago.

The Galaxy S5 which was released in 2014 is around the same price as the current flagship, at least when it comes to the parts involved. The processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, is the most expensive part understandably, and it is estimated at $62. The Galaxy S6 actually used Samsung’s own Exynos 7 since the Snapdragon 801 wasn’t that impressive. But it seems that for the new flagship, they decide to go back to Qualcomm.

As for the camera, even though it has a lower megapixel count (12MP as compared to the 16MP of the Galaxy S6), they focused on the technology to make it a better camera. It uses the dual-pixel tech where every one of the pixels has auto-focusing capabilities. The camera is estimated to have price of $13.70.

But of course these costs don’t include software development, marketing and distribution costs so really, it’s hard to get a close estimate to the actual production cost. We can’t say for sure if the unsubsidized price of the Galaxy S7 at $670 is worth it.

  1. In fact, The 32GB S7 device components cost more than $270 and Their QHD edge display cost a lot more than $60., The 16GB iPhone 6s plus device components cost only $215. The Google 6P – $180. The biggest lure for investing in a S7 this year is the free gear VR on pre-order ($99). Keep telling only half of the truth! LMAO. Where is the IHS news? (Link) Where is the evidence?

Manufacturing cost + labour + Company’s profit + marketing and advertising + taxes + import charges + dealers and distributor’s profits + R.and D. + after sales service + updates and support + accessories cost + software. Highly misleading article.
