Target and T-Mobile have joined forces in the Brightspot program that will bring the carrier’s mobile plans right into the heart of the retailer’s mobile departments. The exact details of this arrangement are still unknown, but Target has released enough information to give us an idea of how it will look like.

The basic idea is to allow people to walk into a Target store and buy a T-Mobile prepaid mobile plan, with or without an accompanying phone. The options mentioned include a $35 talk-and-text plan as well as a $50 plan with unlimited talk, text, and web, with the first 1GB of data flying at 4G speeds. From there, buyers can either choose a compatible phone from Target’s selection or opt to simply get a SIM Kit for use on an unlocked phone.

Being Target, there will of course be purchasing benefits when availing of the Brightspot program. A $25 Target Gift Card awaits loyal subscribers for every six months of paid Brightspot service. Target’s REDcard holders will also be receiving a five percent discount, though it is unclear at this point whether it will be applied to monthly charges or to the phone itself.

Neither Target nor T-Mobile have said much about the mobile plans or the smartphone models to be offered. But since these are prepaid plans, there will be no annual contracts invovled. We’ll probably get to know more when Brightspot formally launches on October 6.
