T-Mobile had briefly mentioned they would be updating the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 tablet in the “coming weeks.” That update was promising to bring LTE connectivity for the tablet and well, we have to say we were a bit surprised to see that update come available so quickly. Simply put, if you are sporting a T-Mobile branded Galaxy Tab 2 10.1and happen to be living somewhere the carrier has LTE — you want to grab this update.
The update will keep your device with Android 4.1.2, however the baseband will jump to version T779UVTMF4. That bit aside, the update measures in at 69.8MB in size and is bringing just one item — the previously mentioned LTE connectivity. As always, T-Mobile has said you will need to have an unrooted device and 50 percent of battery life to get the update.
This update will be available over-the-air and by way of a computer with Kies. The over-the-air update is available as of today (July 15th) and T-Mobile has asked users to “please wait for the notification” before trying to update. In addition, it was said the over-the-air update will continue through July 19th.
Basically, it looks like they will be rolling this update out to all Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 users over these few days. Bottom line here, this certainly sounds like a welcomed update, but we suspect it may only bring frustration for those who are still waiting for LTE to arrive where they live, work and play.
On the positive side though, T-Mobile has recently announced LTE coverage is available for more than 157 million people and across 116 markets. Or perhaps more important for those still waiting, the carrier has also said they are still on track to have coverage available for more than 200 million people across 200 markets before the end of 2013.
