It looks like the T-Mobile G2, that was available for Pre-Order last week, and is shipping soon, will not be supporting tethering at launch. Many of us know that stock Android 2.2 does in fact support tethering right off the bat. However, 2.2 on the G2 will not due to T-Mobile simply not supporting it as of this time.

T-Mobile has been questioned on the lack of the service on the G2, and they responded:

“T-Mobile does not currently support handset tethering or offer a tethering rate plan. Though tethering and Wi-Fi sharing will not be initially supported on the T-Mobile G2, we know that consumers are interested in these features and we are working to develop a solution to support them in the future.”

Although this isn’t good news at all for people who tether quite often and are going to pick up the G2, it does give us hope that they are looking to develop a solution to support it in the future. We do not know as of yet the reasoning behind not offering the option, or the limitations that it may impose upon release, but we may find out when we get further into the devices lifecycle (if at all).
