The BlackBerrry Priv from T-Mobile is getting a new software version. The latest one has just been released yesterday to update the BlackBerry phone to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow build AAF153. BlackBerry itself is regular when it comes to rolling out software updates but it’s T-Mobile’s turn to reveal the new Marshmallow. As with similar updates, it offers several changes and improvements to performance and enhancements to stability.

Feel free to check the software version of your BlackBerry PRIV by going to Apps> Settings> About phone. You will see the current build number. If you see AAF153, that means smartphone is updated already. Otherwise, you will need to download the new version.

Wait for the over-the-air (OTA) update or directly download from T-Mobile. Make sure you have at least 1.6GB free space on your device as the OS file size is 1.3GB. Battery must be at least 50% plus you must have a reliable Internet connection whether via WiFi or T-Mobile data. If you receive the OTA notification, just click on it then choose ‘Restart’ to install.

We don’t know how many BlackBerry PRIV owners got their units from T-Mobile but for AT&T, it’s not doing well according to an executive. That’s only from AT&T. We don’t know how the smartphone is doing in T-Mobile but we have a feeling numbers aren’t good either as the device is no longer available on its online store. When asked if they still sell the PRIV, a T-Mobile customer help agent replied “not currently” and suggested to “check out other phones” instead. It may mean a few things: phone is sold out, no one is buying, or that a new phone will be introduced soon. We’re hoping the PRIV is really sold out and will be replaced soon but AT&T said that BlackBerry wasn’t able to meet its goals last quarter.

BlackBerry has started to sell unlocked PRIV units so that means anyone can use it on any mobile carrier. Now we’re interested to know how the phone is doing in Verizon. It’s listed on Verizon’s website with no change in price yet so we’ll see.
