SwiftKey is looking into launching several new “experimental” projects and apps under its Greenhouse initiative. One of the first things they’re launching now is a brand new, cleaner, less distracting keyboard called Clarity. And while it is still in beta version (as all Greenhouse projects will probably be), it looks promising and might be a good alternative for those who would like a no-frill virtual keyboard for their smartphones or tablets.

Clarity Keyboard Beta is for those who don’t need any distraction from what they’re typing out and just need to focus on the words. It has several neat features like multi-word correct, where it doesn’t just go back to the last word you typed but checks the last few words and corrects them if it detects errors. But in case those weren’t actual errors, you can easily undo the autocorrections so you wouldn’t need the #DYAC hashtag later on (that’s “damn you auto-correct” for the uninitiated). And since a lot of us don’t type in straight English all the time, the app also learns your slang, nicknames and most commonly used phrases so it can correctly predict what you’re typing (or trying to type).

This new keyboad is part of the SwiftKey Greenhouse where the developers are experimenting with new things that may not be ready yet for public consumption. But those who’ll be trying out the beta versions should be able to give them enough feedback to improve the apps, if they ever become a hit and they decide to release it as an actual app.

So if you feel like you would like a cleaner, simpler virtual keyboard app, you can download the beta version through this link. And don’t forget, if you see anything they should improve or change, let them know, as it is this practice that can help apps become better.
