One of the best things about the Amazon Echo is that wherever you are in the house, you can command it to play the music that you want simply by telling “Alexa” to do so. Now you’ll have even more fun with it if you have a Spotify Premium account, since the music streaming giant announced today that you can now connect the two so that you can play your Spotify music whenever you’re in the range of your Echo.
Alexa, if you didn’t know yet, is of course your personal digital assistant or to be more specific, your cloud-based voice service on your Amazon Echo that does your bidding and gives you the information you asked for. Now that Spotify is connected to Echo, you can give it commands like “Alexa, play my Discover Weekly Playlist on Spotify” or “Alexa, play One Direction on Spotify” or anything that you can play through the on-demand music streaming service.
Echo also supports Spotify Connect, so you can seamlessly transfer control from your Spotify smartphone app to Echo the minute you walk in the door of your house or wherever you’ve installed your speaker. The same way, you can start controlling what you’re listening to when you leave your house through your mobile app.
This connection between Spotify and Amazon Echo only happens if you’re a Premium user and if you live in the US. If you don’t have a Spotify Premium account yet, you can try it out for free for 30 days and then if you’re happy with it, you can subscribe by paying $9.99 per month.
