People in the US – well, those who can afford a Sony Xperia flagship, that is – have been waiting for a while now for the Sony Xperia Z5 to make it across the Pacific and arrive in North American markets. Sony Xperia flagships have a reputation of being more expensive than most Android smartphones, but Sony accepts that because of the quality and elegant builds their devices tend to have. And for those who can afford it, owning an Xperia device is a joy in itself. That will probably be the case with the Xperia Z5, coming to the US soon.
Sony announced today that the Sony Xperia Z5 will be available in the US starting February 7. The Xperia Z5 will be sold at the premium price of USD$599, while the Z5 Compact will be sold for USD$499. Both variants will be sold unlocked, and will support GSM carriers, such as AT&T and T-Mobile. These phones will be on sale via Amazon, Best Buy, and other retailers when they arrive next month.
To refresh your memory, the Xperia Z5 carries with it some rockin’ specs. You get that gorgeous TRILUMINOS display, 5.2 inches at FullHD (1080p) resolution. This is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, supported by 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. A microSD slot will be able to give you up to 200GB worth of expansion if you can find the card for it. Sony has also kept its best camera for itself – the 23MP custom 1/2.3 Exmor RS camera sensor – which is the reason why the Xperia Z5 sits on top of the DxOMark mobile imaging rankings to this day.

I’ve always been impressed by the Xperia line. If they would bring these phones out closer to their processors’ respective release time frames, they would be so much appealing. Here in the US, it’s hard to consider purchasing the Z5 when they’re bringing it to market the same month that new phones with next generation processors will be unveiled at MWC.
