If you think all the flagship excitement has already petered out for the 2nd half of 2016, Sony may prove you wrong. Well, that is if you’re the kind that gets excited with new Sony devices. Based on the benchmarking site GFXBench and some UAProf links, it looks like the Japanese OEM is set to unveil a new Xperia flagship device (or devices) later this year, most probably at the IFA this coming September. Not much details have come out, but there are a few to get us interested in this possibility.
There is a Sony F8331 (F833X) model floating around on the GFXBench site and since it has a higher model designation than the Xperia X Performance (F813X), we’re assuming that this is indeed a higher-spec device, although the specs set seem to be similar to it. The sheet indicates it has a 5.1-inch display with a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. It’s also supposed to be powered by a Snapdragon 820 chipset, and will come with a 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. The main shooter is also a 23MP camera while the front-facing one is at 13MP.
Models F8331 and F8332 have also been seen on UAProf links so there might be more than one variant. Since the specs seem very close to that of the Xperia X Performance, it would be interesting to know how this supposed upcoming device will be different. It may have something to do with the screen size because even though it says 5.1-inches on GFXBench, they’ve often gotten it wrong so there may be something there.
We will probably have something clearer in the next few months and an official announcement is expected by September during the IFA. Will you be looking forward to a new Sony Xperia flagship?
