Sony India has sent out invites to their local media for a May 26 event where they are set to launch a new smartphone in their region. But as to which smartphone it will be is still up for speculation. But based on the look of the official invite to the press conference, it might have something to do with the device’s water resistance, so speculation is rife that it will be the Xperia M4 Aqua, which had its official announcement at the MWC earlier this year.
But sources say that aside from the rumored India launch of the Xperia M4 Aqua, they will also be locally launching another phone. It may probably be the new flagship, the Xperia Z4, as it is rumored to be launching outside of Japan by the end of May. Will India be the next region where we’ll see their brand new smartphone? That may just be the case, as it is seen as one of the emerging markets that OEMs have to be targeting over the next few years.
The only hint as to the possible theme of the event is the water graphics seen on the invite. That is why the midrange water resistant Xperia M4 Aqua may be the best bet. The 5.2-inch smartphone is the first to run on the market version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset that is full octa-core and has a 64-bit performance.
Of course it has a IP65/68 water and dust resistance which makes it ideal for those looking for a cheaper but tougher smartphone. With the event still a few days away, expect more speculation as to what device will actually be announced during press conference in New Delhi.
