Sony Computer Entertainment isn’t only being renamed to Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. The change which will be effective next Friday, April 1, will also have Sony introducing ForwardWorks. It’s a new company that will work on PlayStation gaming on mobile. This branch of the company is expected to bring “forward” the mobile gaming as the global smartphone business continues to expand.
According to Sony, ForwardWorks will take advantage of the intellectual properties of PlayStation games, characters, and gaming development. This sub-company of Sony is hoping to finally bring its signature PlayStation gaming expertise to smart devices. It’s something Japanese gamers have been asking for. No, not exactly the business renaming and building of a new division but PlayStation games optimized for smartphones and tablets.
In the coming months, we can expect Sony’s ForwardWorks to release classic and new PlayStation games to mobile. It’s a new company but with the technologies and experience of Sony, specifically the PlayStation team, we can be positive that there will be success in the future.
Sony still needs to be more careful in making several business decisions because numbers, especially in the mobile business, are not good. Let’s just hope and cross our fingers that this ForwardWorks will finally advance Sony’s place in the mobile gaming business.
