Sony Ericsson’s LiveView failed to set our enthusiasm alight when we reviewed it over at SlashGear, with the Bluetooth-connected mini display falling short of our expectations in terms of functionality and proving temperamental in its wireless stability. The company now says that a firmware update is on course for release in January 2011 which should address some of these problems.
Among the priority fixes are more stable Bluetooth connections – particularly when using the LiveView with non-Sony Ericsson devices. The company is also keen to point out that, despite some reports, the LiveView firmware is indeed upgradable, which does leave us a little more enthusiastic about the sub-display’s potential.
“As I’ve read some reviews of LiveViewâ„¢ I’ve noticed that some users are reporting issues with e.g. the connection between the device and the phone. Especially when using phones from our competitors. This is very unfortunate and has been escalated to our developers. They have been working hard on identifying the issues and have solutions coming.
In some reviews I have also read comments about the LiveViewâ„¢ device not being upgradable. I just want to confirm that that is not the case. There will be a software update coming for the device itself. The work is ongoing and the plan is to make this updated software available as an update through SE Update Service in January. Some minor things are also possible to solve within the LiveViewâ„¢ Application in the phone and updates of that app will be issued on Android Market as for any app.” Sony Ericsson

so excited for the update! The device seemed to have such promise but I found out that it lost connections fairly frequently I quickly lost interest. This makes me more hopeful again. Fingers crossed that it gets all fixed up 😀
“Some users” are experiencing difficulty…
