Sega is no stranger to the Play Store, and as of today it looks like another game has been released. This latest is called Sonic Dash and it has arrived as an endless runner title. Specifically, Sonic Dash has arrived as the first endless runner style game featuring Sonic the Hedgehog.
Having played many a Sonic game in the past, bringing the Hedgehog to an endless runner style game seems to be a perfect fit. After all, Sonic has had a focus on speed in the past. That thought aside, those who download the game will be able to play as Sonic or as one of his friends. The available character list includes Tails, Shadow and Knuckles.
Regardless of the character you choose, the gameplay will be the same. That is to say you will be running as fast as you can, all the while dodging hazards, jumping over barriers and going through the loop de loops. And along with those tasks, users will also be fighting off any enemies.
Sega has included some social integration, which will basically have you competing (leader board style) with your Facebook friends. Otherwise, while the game is free to download and free to play, there are in-app purchases available. These will include power-ups that help you run further by offering head starts, shields and more.
That all being said, while we are happy to see Sonic the Hedgehog arrive as an endless runner style game, there are more than a few complaints coming from those who have already begun playing. From what we are seeing, the game itself is fun to play, but the in game advertisements may be a bit over the top. Sega has mentioned in the Play Store listing they are “working hard to bring you future FREE updates” — we can only hope they do something to address these complaints.
