We knew that this day was coming, ever since Google acquired free music streaming service Songza, around seventeen months ago. The four co-founders of the popular music curation service has announced that Songza will be no more. But no cause for despair (or so we hope) since everything in your account (if you had one) will now be fully integrated into Google Play Music, should you choose to accept this major change.

And we mean literally accept it, as you would need to tap an “I’m in” button so that all your stations, your thumbs up and thumbs down, and all the things you liked and were interested in Songza would be transferred to Google Play Music. Probably one of their most famous features, the Concierge, which recommends music based on the time of day, where you are, your mood, etc, was already incorporated into Google Play Music. Elias Roman, one of the co-founders, and now Play Music’s Product Manager, said that their goal was to do everything they were doing on Sonza onto Google’s music streaming service.

You will be able to see, or rather listen to, the songs or playlists you’ve recently been listening to on Songza into the “recents” section of Google Play Music. While their numbers still aren’t comparable to Spotify, they have been trying to carve their own niche market by offering great deals for those looking to switch or those still looking for their music streaming service of choice. For a $9.99 / month subscription, not only will you get Play Music, but also automatically a subscription to YouTube Red, and vice versa.

Songza as a separate app will continue to exist only until January 31st. If you’d like to give Google Play Music a shot, remember that you have to press the “I’m in” button in order to enjoy a sort of seamless transition between the two.
