Since it launched a few months back in January, Snapchat‘s Discovery section has gotten positive engagement, particularly during the beginning. But recent reports have been saying interest has dropped off since then, which means maybe it’s time for an update. The ephemeral messaging app seems to think so too, and their first ever update to their news platform gives users more options on how to share the content they like to people they know.
When you’re browsing through the hundreds of news items from media companies on Discover and you see something you would like to share, you can now tap or long press on the image, video or article. It will then make a screenshot of the portion you’re looking at, then you can annotate on that image, either adding text or drawing/sketching on it. It will then send the image to the contact or contacts you choose, and they will see a link at the bottom of the image that will send them to the thing you were viewing or reading. However, not all the publishers will allow their content to be shared like that, and it will be indicated in the aritcle or image if that’s the case.
Discover brings Snapchat users media content from publishers like CNN, Food Network, ESPN, etc, so that you get to receive more than just pictures on the app. But in keeping with the nature of the messaging service as well, the content doesn’t lead to a link to their official sites and the content is also constantly changing and doesn’t last a long time.
The update has rolled out to Snapchat users by this time. You can also manually update it through their Google Play Store page, if you don’t see the new features yet.
