Data saving seems to be the name of the game among apps, specifically messaging apps, with Facebook and WhatsApp just some of the recent ones that are offering versions of their apps that will not eat up your precious mobile data. Another app to join this “helpful” trend is Snapchat, with the latest update offering a “travel mode” for those who want to save up on data even when using the app. Plus, the update also brings a new way of using emojis on your snaps.
We have to admit that Snapchat’s appeal is more for the younger ones who enjoy sharing pics that will not last forever, for one reason or another. But teenagers of course do not have unlimited data on their devices, and we all know that apps with a lot of media in it tend to hog the bandwidth. So the Travel Mode of Snapchat will help users manage it, by not automatically loading the snaps, stories, and discovery content unless they are tapped. It’s named for the fact that when traveling, you try to save up your roaming data, but it’s not just for travelers but for anyone who wants to do the same.
The update also brings a few new multi-media features. Previously, the emojis can only be placed as a single string of text but now, you have the power to place them wherever you want on the picture and you can use as many as you want, maybe even cover the whole frame with emojis. Your profile GIF can also now be downloaded as a video instead of just as the first frame and as a photo.
Snapchat recently said that they have reached 100 million users and that 60% of them are young Americans, hence they are trying to add more features that will appeal to that demographic. But they are also trying to expand beyond their current market by constantly updating and adding more crowd-pleasing features, beyond just the ephemeral aspect of the app.
